Add this delicious spice mix to your pantry to round out the core mixes you'll need.

Use all organic ingredients. Ensure all the dried spices are labeled certified gluten free.

Pro tips and substitutions for perfect Italian Seasoning:
  • This version doesn't contain salt. Salt is really easy to add to your food when you make it and the amount of salt needed isn't always exactly the same ratio as the amount of Italian seasoning you'll need.
  • You can use single store bought herbs or dehydrate your own. I often use a combo, since I can't always get some herbs fresh.
  • This seasoning mix works great in simple salad dressing or blended into sour cream for a nice veggie dip. It can be used whenever recipes call for Italian seasoning.
  • This stores well for up to year in a cool dark location, or in the freezer. The freezer is a good place if you live in a humid area.

Italian Seasoning

Ingredients:

Note: All the herbs except the garlic should be dried crushed leaves, rather than the powdered variety.

2 tablespoons Basil
2 tablespoons Parsley
2 tablespoons Oregano
1 tablespoon Marjoram
1 tablespoon Thyme
1 tablespoon Rosemary
1 tablespoon Garlic, dehydrated or powdered
Substitutions and Notes:
  • Herbs: You can use single store bought herbs or you can dehydrate your own. You can even use a combo, since you won't always be able to get some herbs fresh year round. There are instructions below on how to dehydrate your own herbs and garlic.
Directions:
  • Combine all herbs and the garlic and blend well.
  • Store in an airtight container, and store in a cool dry place for about 4 months. If you're in a humid area, this stores well in the freezer for about a year.

Use this seasoning blend to make delicious simple salad dressings or blended into sour cream for a nice chip or veggie dip. You can also use it in any recipe that calls for Italian seasoning.

Notes:
  • You can make fresh dehydrated garlic and herbs either in a food dehydrator or in a low oven (about 250 degrees F). Mince or chop the garlic and herbs very fine. Place on a rack in your dehydrator and dry, or on a cookie sheet in the oven. If using the oven, check every 5 minutes, and stir them well, and bake until dry. When drying garlic in the oven, the aroma can be extremely strong. Be sure to open some windows and turn on the oven fan.
  • When you dry your own herbs and you want to keep this mix long term be sure all the herbs and the garlic are bone dry. Use within 2 months. You can store it in the freezer and it will still last a year, and you won't need to ensure it's all bone dry.
